Training of Café Mentors on 'Mentorship in Foodservice Enterprise Administration and Management
Kudumbashree over a period has demonstrated the feasibility of promoting large number of Foodservice enterprises that have the ability to scale-up operations, in terms of employment opportunities and income-generating potential. Kudumbashree has been able to establish and develop ‘Café Kudumbashree’, an umbrella brand that covers diverse units providing Catering, Canteen, Mini Café and Restaurant services across the state of Kerala. The units are run by members of Kudumbashree families who are trained in basic aspects of food service management and its services. The objective has been to develop a hub of livelihood opportunity for women and become an inevitable part of hospitality sector in Kerala. With its growing popularity, Kudumbashree National Resource Organization, has envisaged to promote scalable models of foodservice enterprises across India through National Resource Centre (NRC). The centre will act as a resource wing to develop national and regional capacities of partner SRLMs who are interested in setting food service based enterprises through their community network. In order to promote sustainable models, Kudumbashree NRO has developed a technical resource person, known as Café Mentor, to handhold and support foodservice enterprises. 19 people with background in foodservice, selected from different districts of Kerala, had undergone a four-week training programme on "Mentorship in Foodservice Enterprise Administration and Management" jointly designed by Kudumbashree NRO and Institute of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, Kovalam. While fostering new partnership with an academic institute, Kudumbasree NRO has visualized Café Mentors to become the torch bearers for bringing radical change in promotion of foodservice enterprises across India. -
