Tutorial on Gram Sabha (English)
Gram Sabhas are a constitutionally mandated platform which ensures that members of the community who have been registered in the electoral rolls of the Panchayat can participate in the process of governance and decision making without any biases. It thus, provides a space for people to participate in the decision making process at the local level. This tutorial on Gram Sabha gives a glimpse on how CBO network in collaboration with their local self governments can conduct an effective participatory Gram Sabha. -

Public goods, services and resource development demand plan is an important component of Village Poverty Reduction Plan. The plan lists the gaps in the availability and quality of services and also comprises of a Village level map reflecting the demands for public goods and resources within the village. The Village level mapping is facilitated in the field so as to enhance the capacity of the Village Organisation members to identify the infrastructural gaps in their village and place demand for the same. The mapping is done through a Participatory Rural Appraisal technique. This plan is promoted under the tools of participatory planning developed by Kudumbashree NRO under the PRI-CBO Convergence Project. -

Champa Devi is a member of Self-Help Group (SHG) from Rishabhdev, Udaipur. She is also an entrepreneur promoted under Micro Enterprise Consultant (MEC) project. Under the project, MEC helped Champa with credit support to increase the scale of her business. The MEC Project was implemented by Kudumbashree NRO in partnership with Rajeevika (Rajasthan State Rural Livelihood Mission) from 2015-2018 in three districts of Bhilwara, Kota and Udaipur in Rajasthan. -
India on your Plate: Celebration of Indian Cuisines
The Aajeevika India Food Court 2019, held at India Gate in the national capital witnessed a grand success of women entrepreneurs from SHG network. As a platform, the Aajeevika India Food Court, offered a one time opportunity to the women coming from vulnerable and most marginalised background to take a step towards prosperity. Developed as a concept by Kudumbashree, the Café Kudumbashree India Food Court, offers a learning platform to the SHG women in developing their ‘cooking skills’ into a business. The concept encourages women from different states to share a range of culinary experience to a larger audience from different backgrounds. More than seven such food festivals have been organised under the umbrella brand Café Kudumbashree, which has now become a ‘proof of concept’ for the first generation entrepreneurs to take up food service as means of business. The movie is a celebration of experience of mothers from many kitchens. -
Architects of Start-up Village: Rajasthan Chapter
Kudumbashree began its interventions in the area of economic empowerment and gainful employment with the implementation of Micro Enterprise Consultant (MEC) Project. In 2013, Kudumbashree NRO began implementing MEC project outside Kerala in the states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan. The Micro Enterprise Consultant Project which was implemented in six states has been instrumental in strengthening local capabilities in the form of Micro Enterprise Consultants. These MECs, with the support of Kudumbashree NRO professionals and mentors have influenced local women to take up entrepreneurship. The Rajasthan Chapter of Architects of Start-up Village is the roaring success of these women entrepreneurs and the MECs marking tribute to all the women from the SHG community network in rural Rajasthan who have worked hard to challenge social norms and make space for themselves in the public arena. -
Harbingers of Change
In 2017 Kudumbashree started its special transgender units in Kerala in an attempt to mainstream the community and to generate livelihood opportunities for them. An epochal step, a one of its kind institutional effort for a community long overlooked. The Kudumbashree experience speaks volumes on building livelihoods as the most effective tool for empowering people. The far-reaching reverberations of this monumental step, today, have even reached the lawns of India Gate in India’s capital city. At Aajeevika India Food Court 2019, Kerala Stall No. 1 has turned heads with the overwhelming response it garnered from Delhites. Items like Nannari Milk Sharbat became a new experience for them and one of the most sought after in the event. This fresh juice corner was run by three transgender individuals from a special Kudumbashree unit in Kerala. This is the inspiring story of Amrutha, Anamika and Pranav, one of the forerunners from the community who has become an essential part of Kudumbashree’s legacy. -

Suraj Devi is a member of Self-Help Group (SHG) from Rishabhdev, Udaipur. A homemaker, a mother, an entrepreneur and a business consultant, she has been performing all these roles with conviction and a smile. Local Markets for Local Economy
One of the major interventions under the MEC project was to promote local markets to boost local economy. The entrepreneurs promoted under the MEC project in Rajasthan with the support of MECs were able to have access to more customers and infrastructure required to increase their sales. 646 entrepreneurs benefited amounting to a sales of Rs. 51,68,472. -

Empowering Self and Others: A story from Bihar
The Micro Enterprise Consultant (MEC) project focuses on developing field level structures which can provide multi-dimensional support to the rural micro enterprises of the poor. As part of the MEC project, individuals are identified and trained from local communities to become Micro-enterprise Consultants. The MEC are responsible for providing hand-holding support to potential and existing rural entrepreneurs. The MECs are also encouraged to partner each other and form firms that leverage their diverse skill sets. As a barefoot consultant Anamika from Jandaha, Bihar has supported more than 70 SHG women and their enterprises. -
